THE MISSING DIMENSION w.r.t GBV

GBV, gender based violence has been well defined on many platforms. Types of GBV have been elaborated. But i feel that as we observe 16 days of Activism against GBV,the missing dimension in addressing GBV is proactive prevention and dealing with root causes. The English call it ‘nipping in the bud’ before it sprouts beyond a seed.

PROACTIVE PREVENTION OF GBV MUST BE PERPETRATOR CENTRED

It is time to be perpetrator centred as I see most proactivity is victim based. I am a layperson in psychology but i write as i think…as thoughts flow through my mind i put on paper. Those in the field of psychology please assist by putting my sentiments into psychology perspective.

HOW DO WE GET THE POTENTIAL PERPETRATORS INVOLVED IN THIS PROACTIVITY?

Here are my 2 cents worth of ideas towards that:

  1. Provoked or not provoked, learn to walk away. Definitly if you act on your anger provoked by the potential victim, you are the more physically powerful counterpart. We definitly know the end of it.
  2. Learn to lose an argument for the sake of progress, healthy space and life ahead.
  3. Do not abuse the God ordained or culturally ordained position you have been given.
  4. Look beyond your spouse/woman/child and see the actual problem for what it is. Most of the time you will definitely find that there is something else getting to you and bringing you to be violent. Not your loved one you see in front of you.
  5. Self introspect each time there is a disagreement and deal with what you find there. Improving yourself will positively contribute to your relationships.
  6. Avoid been judgemental as been judgemental ia associated with self righteous mindset.

If i do think of other proactive factors,I will blog another day. For now,TIME OUT and chow chow!!!
